How I’m Preparing for My Most Creative Year Yet!

Wow, it’s already the end of 2024. I always get caught up and overwhelmed with New Year’s resolutions. I have all these big goals but get demotivated when I wake up the next day and that goal or success just isn’t automatically there for me. I think that 2025 will be the year of creativity, building myself up and here’s how I’m going to do it.

1. Create Every Day (Even if it’s Tiny)
I don’t mean a masterpiece every day—some days it’s just a doodle on a napkin or experimenting with new color combos. But keeping the momentum alive, even in small ways, feels like a workout for my imagination. Every little effort adds up to big creative gains.

2. Get Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable
Growth only happens when I step outside my comfort zone, so I’m pushing myself this year. Whether it’s trying a new medium, exploring a style I’ve never touched, or tackling a subject I’ve avoided, it’s time to get awkward. That’s where breakthroughs happen!
My plan: I would love to participate in an art fair this year!

3. Organize My Creative Space (Finally)
I’ll admit it—my studio is a lovable mess, but it’s also a bit of a roadblock. Time to declutter and create a workspace that inspires me rather than stresses me out. Plus, I’ll finally find that paintbrush I’ve been “borrowing” from the void!
My plan: Taking one day out of the week to just organize my space, maybe even make it festive.

4. Build My Artistic Community
Art doesn’t have to be a solo gig. This year, I want to connect more with other creatives who get the ups and downs of this journey. Sharing ideas, geeking out about techniques, and supporting one another sounds like the best kind of vibe.
My plan: Do artist interviews for this blog so we can build off of each other and make a creative community.

5. Share My Work (Even If It’s Scary)
Sharing my art feels like standing naked in a room full of critics—terrifying. But I’ve learned that vulnerability often leads to connection and growth. My art deserves to be seen, quirks and all, so I’m taking the plunge.
My plan: Start with progress shots on Instagram and aim to submit a piece to at least one local show.

6. Take Breaks Without Guilt
Burnout is real, and I’ve learned the hard way that rest is just as crucial as work. Whether it’s a day off for a nature walk or a Netflix binge, I’m giving myself permission to pause and recharge.
My plan: Plan one "artist retreat day" a month—completely guilt-free.

7. Document My Artistic Journey
There’s something magical about looking back on where I started versus where I am now. Documenting my process—through photos, journaling, or videos—helps me track growth and stay inspired.
My plan: Start an art journal and post more time-lapse videos on social media.

8. Support Other Artists
A rising tide lifts all boats, right? This year, I’m making it a point to celebrate the wins of my fellow artists. Buying their work, sharing their posts, or leaving an encouraging comment—it all adds up to a thriving creative community.
My plan: Promote one artist a month on my socials.

9. Embrace Rejection as Redirection
Not every gallery will say yes, and not every piece will resonate with an audience. And that’s okay! Instead of letting rejection sting, I’m reframing it as a redirection to something better.
My plan: Keep a “rejection journal” to track lessons learned and moments of growth.

10. Experiment with Trends, But Stay True to Me
AI art? TikTok time-lapses? There’s a lot buzzing in the art world, and I’m curious to explore. But I’m keeping my feet firmly planted in what makes my work authentically mine.
My plan: Dedicate one project to exploring a trend that intrigues me while staying true to my style.

11. Celebrate My Wins
Big or small, every achievement deserves a little fanfare. Whether it’s finishing a challenging piece or nailing a new skill, I’m taking the time to acknowledge the wins that keep me motivated.
My plan: Create a “win jar” and fill it with accomplishments to reflect on at the end of the year.

12. Make Art Fun Again
With deadlines and pressure, it’s easy to lose the joy of creating. This year, I’m carving out time to play—no rules, no expectations, just pure fun.
My plan: Schedule a weekly “just for fun” session to create without judgment.

Final Thoughts
2025 is my blank canvas, and I’m ready to fill it with creativity, growth, and connection. These resolutions aren’t about pressure or perfection—they’re about keeping the spark alive and celebrating the journey as much as the destination.

What about you? What resolutions are you setting for your artistic journey this year? Let’s inspire each other to make 2025 our most creative year yet!
